The year 2025 has begun in Rioja with the celebration of the centenary of its Regulatory Council, focusing global attention on this renowned wine region, where Viñedos del Contino holds a prominent place.
Rioja has been the subject of extensive coverage highlighting its diversity and growing international appeal. One of the most relevant features was the comprehensive report on Rioja published by the British magazine Decanter. To prepare it, Ines Salpico and Beth Willard tasted more than 700 wines to select the most outstanding. Within the report, Contino Mazuelo Don Vicente 2021 received 97 points and was described as “a wonderful interpretation of Mazuelo in a single-varietal version.” In addition, Contino Gran Reserva 2019 achieved 95 points, with Beth Willard calling it “the definition of a great reserva.”
Almost simultaneously, Wine Spectator highlighted Contino Viña del Olivo 2021 (94 points) and Contino Blanco 2021(92 points) among the “Top Recommended Wines from Rioja” in its feature “Catching Up with the Dynamic Spanish Region”, written by Alison Napjus. She described Viñedos del Contino as a pioneering winery for introducing the single vineyard concept in the 1970s — long before it became a trend in the region. The same article also featured Imperial Gran Reserva 2018 on the cover, awarding it 94 points.
With these recognitions, Contino faces the end of the growing cycle and the upcoming harvest with a smile.
