Contino Reserva

Contino Reserva is made with carefully selected grapes from our own vineyards, which surround the Finca de San Rafael, were hand harvested with a high level of selection in the field and at a point of perfect ripeness. De-stemming was followed by a pre-fermentation cold soak of 24-48 hours. Alcoholic fermentation began spontaneously in the 12,000 litre stainless steel vats at a temperature of 26-28ºC. There followed a post-fermentation maceration with pumping over until racking. Malolactic fermentation also occurred spontaneously.

The wine was then aged for 18 months in oak barrels of which 20% were American and 80% French, and following which the wine completed its ageing in bottle in the cellars of the winery until its release.

Viñedos del Contino was born in 1973, establishing the “château” concept in the Rioja region. Its wines are made exclusively from the vines planted on its 62 hectares. The estate’s vineyards embrace its ancestral home within a meander in the River Ebro, located in Laserna, near the village of Laguardia in the Rioja Alavesa winemaking region
